Pakistan’s ambassador to Russia praised the nuclear security records of New Delhi and Islamabad and claimed that both the countries have given a mutual guarantee not to attack each other’s nuclear facilities. In an interview given to news portal RTVI.com on Tuesday (April 14, 2026), he said that such a guarantee has special importance in view of the current conflict in West Asia.
‘Good history of India and Pakistan’
Pakistani Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi said, ‘India and Pakistan have a very good history of mutual guarantees that we will not attack each other’s nuclear facilities. Our nuclear facilities are completely safe and of course we would be very happy to cooperate with Russia, but this is exactly what we discussed in relation to this (West Asia) conflict.
The news portal had recorded the interview of the Pakistani ambassador on April 10, just before the first direct talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad. Tirmizi said, ‘In the recent conflict in West Asia, we unfortunately saw Israel attack Bushehr. If there had been a direct attack on the Bushehr nuclear power plant, its consequences would have been serious not only for Iran, but also for the Persian Gulf and Pakistan. I hope Israel will learn a lesson from this. It should never be attacked.
Pakistan remembered Operation Sindoor
Responding to a question about the role of US President Donald Trump in preventing India-Pakistan war in May 2025, the Pakistani Ambassador said, “We told the Indians that we want to talk. And yes, President Trump played a role in reducing tensions.” India has consistently maintained that the agreement to stop military conflict with Pakistan was reached after direct talks between the DGMOs (Directors General of Military Operations) of the two armies.
Pakistan wants to join BRICS
Faisal Niaz Tirmizi expressed a positive stance on the question of Russia playing the role of mediator in improving relations between Pakistan and India. He said, ‘Well, Russia has always had a role in this because it has very close relations with India, that is why we tell the Indian side that we are already partners in SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) and we want to join BRICS. Therefore, Russia can always play the role of an impartial mediator in improving relations between India and Pakistan.
