The reason is the increase in the prices of LPG gas and coal. Before the war, where the price of a 19 kg commercial cylinder used to be Rs 1800, now the same cylinder is available for more than Rs 2000. A woman (name withheld) who has been running a press shop near Delhi’s Bengali Market for the last 15 years told ABP News that earlier we used to charge Rs 10 per pair of clothes, but now we have charged Rs 15 per pair. Gas prices have increased. If the customers also understand this then there are no complaints from their side either.
He has been doing ironing work for 40 years, earlier he used to charge even Rs 10 for clothes.
On the other hand, the person (name mentioned) who runs a coal-fired press told that he has been doing the press work for the last 40 years. Till a few days ago we used to charge Rs 10 for a piece of cloth but now we have to pay Rs 15. The price of coal has increased. Earlier, 10 kg coal was available for Rs 450. Now 10 kg is available for Rs 600 due to which the price has to be increased. However, the washermen who wash the clothes have a different complaint. They say that their cost has doubled due to war. Money is not being raised from the customer’s side.
A worker at a clothes washing site on Mahadev Road in Lutyens’ Delhi said that before the war, clothes washing chemicals were available at Rs 450 per gallon. Today the same gallon is available for Rs 850. That is, earlier, where washing a cloth used to cost Rs 13, we used to charge Rs 15 per cloth.
The cost of washing clothes is around Rs 22 to 23.
Now after the increase in the price of chemicals, the cost of washing per cloth is coming to Rs 22 to 23, which means we should get at least Rs 25 per cloth but the customer is not ready to increase our money. Even now we have to wash clothes at the rate of 15 duas per cloth. They say that here we get clothes from the quarters of MPs, Ministers and officials, but when we talk to them about increasing the prices, they say that if you want to wash clothes at this rate, then wash them, otherwise we will get them washed from someone else, that is why we are now forced to wash clothes after incurring losses.
