Jammu and Kashmir’s separatist leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah was arrested by the NIA (National Investigation Agency) on Friday evening (April 17, 2026) in an old case. This action is related to a 30 year old case. NIA’s Srinagar branch arrested Shabbir Shah and then took three days’ transit remand from Patiala House Court in Delhi. After this he was taken to Jammu and Kashmir.
This arrest has been made in the case of attack on policemen in 1996, in which Shabbir Shah is accused. It is worth noting that Shabbir Shah had got bail from the Supreme Court in an NIA case in the month of March this year. Apart from this, on March 28, Patiala House Court had also granted him bail in an ED case. That means, after getting bail recently, he has now been arrested again in an old case.
