As the investigation into the car blast that took place near the Red Fort in Delhi on Monday is progressing, the police and investigating agencies are getting new clues. Now the investigation teams have detained at least five more people from across the country, including two doctors and two staff of Faridabad-based Al-Falah University. With this, the search for another doctor has intensified, who had gone to Türkiye with two other suspects.
Two doctors from UP detained, both of Kashmir origin
Two doctors have been picked up from Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Mohammad Arif Mir (32), a cardiologist from Kanpur, and Dr. Farooq, working at GS Medical College, Hapur, who are originally from Jammu and Kashmir. Both are suspected to have had contact with Dr. Shaheen Shahid, who was arrested from Faridabad this month. According to ATS, Dr. Mir was detained from Kanpur on Wednesday night and Dr. Farooq from Hapur on Thursday afternoon and sent to Delhi for questioning. Police searched Dr. Mir’s room and confiscated his laptop and phone.
link between suspects
Investigation has revealed that Dr. Mir may be related to Dr. Umar Un Nabi, who drove the car that exploded near the Red Fort. Both were identified during a medical college in Kashmir. Similarly, Dr. Farooq studied with Dr. Muzammil Ganai, who was caught in a room in Faridabad from where explosive material was found. Investigating agencies suspect that some “white collar” medical professionals of Kashmir origin were being tried to join the terrorist network under an organized module.
Al-Falah University staff also detained
Mohammad Jamil alias Jamil, staff of Faridabad’s Al-Falah University, has also been detained by the NIA. He is accused of indirectly helping in the recruitment of doctors from Kashmir and many appointments were made under suspicious circumstances. Encrypted messages and coded data have been found from Jamil’s phone and laptop, which point towards connection to the network.
Apart from this, university compounder Wasid Khan and his brother-in-law Mohammad Faheem have also been arrested, because the red Ford EcoSport vehicle involved in the blast was recovered from Faheem’s house.
Doctor traveling to Türkiye absconds, search continues
Another name has emerged in the investigation of Dr. Muzaffar Ahmed Rather, who had gone to Türkiye in the year 2022 along with suspects Umar Un Nabi and Muzammil Ganai. According to sources, all three of them met Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) handlers in Türkiye. Dr. Muzaffar is not in the country at present and had gone to Dubai in August. Investigative agencies suspect that he may still be hiding in Dubai or may be trying to escape towards Afghanistan. Investigation has also revealed that Dr. Muzaffar is the elder brother of Dr. Adil Ahmed Rather, who has already been arrested in another case from Saharanpur, UP. Both brothers are residents of Anantnag, Kashmir.
