The entry of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has created a new equation in the politics of Bengal. On one hand, the pressure on Trinamool Congress to raise the issues of minorities has increased, while on the other hand, the discussion about division of opposition votes has also intensified. In a public meeting held in Raghunathganj, Murshidabad, Owaisi directly attacked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party TMC.

Counterattack on ‘B-Team’ allegations
In Bengal politics, it is often alleged that AIMIM is the B-team of BJP. On this Owaisi gave a strict reply. Owaisi said, ‘Sometimes they call us the B team of BJP. We are just the voice of the people and we will not accept raising questions on the honor of the Muslims of Bengal. We have come here and will keep coming. Owaisi made it clear that the aim of his party is to ensure political participation and leadership: Our aim is that the Muslims of Bengal should get political agency and leadership, because only then will they get justice.

Owaisi also tried to counter TMC’s allegation that BJP will benefit from his entry. He said, ’26 years ago in 1998, Mamata Banerjee made an alliance with BJP and made the BJP candidate from Dumdum the MP. At that time, did Asaduddin Owaisi go and tell him to make an alliance with BJP? Referring to 1999, he also said that at that time also BJP became MP with the support of Mamata.
‘Injustice was done to Muslim minorities’
Owaisi’s question was simple, ‘Has anyone talked about the industry or the employment of our children on the land of Murshidabad?’ He reminded people that you made Mamata Banerjee the Chief Minister thrice, sent her candidates to Parliament, but what did the area get in return?
Owaisi kept the issue of minorities at the center of his speech. He said, ‘A lot of injustice was done to the Muslim minority of Bengal. People tell you to support secularism… but no one talks about it.

Giving historical context, he said, ‘When Moe Muqaddas was stolen in Kashmir in December 1962 and riots took place across the country, then 8 lakh Muslims from this Bengal were pushed to East Pakistan. Then why did these people who took the name of secularism become blind and deaf? This statement of Owaisi directly questions that politics, which calls itself secular but remains silent on grassroots issues.
