The Iranian Navy opened fire on two Indian ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday (18 April 2026) amid the Iran-US ceasefire. During this incident, an audio of the radio conversation between the captain present on the Indian ship and the Iranian army has also surfaced. The captain present on the ship said that earlier they were allowed to proceed, but now they are being fired upon and they should be allowed to return. One of the ships that was attacked by the Iranian army was named Sanmar Herald. According to a source in the Indian government, the ship and all the people on board are safe. In the radio conversation, the Indian crew is repeatedly heard saying that their names were on Iran’s list and they were given permission to proceed, but suddenly they started firing. After this the ship had to return and after some time radio contact was also lost.

India adopted a tough stance
India took a tough stance and summoned Iran’s ambassador. Expressing deep concern over this, the Ministry of External Affairs said that India takes the security of its merchant ships and sailors very seriously. India has demanded from Iran to restore the safe movement of ships passing through this important sea route as soon as possible. This incident has happened at a time when Iran has changed its stance regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier it had said that this route would remain open for commercial ships during the ceasefire, but later citing the US blockade, it again imposed strict control on this route. Iran has also warned that ships that enter the region without permission will be considered collaborating with the enemy and action can be taken against them.
Statement of Dr. Abdul Majeed Hakim Ilahi
Dr. Abdul Majeed Hakim Elahi, representative of the supreme leader of Iran in India, said on this incident that he was not aware of it. He also said that relations between India and Iran are very old and strong and cooperation between the two countries will continue in future also. Talking about peace, he expressed hope that the matter will be resolved through talks. Meanwhile, the situation in the sea has become even more tense. Iran has clearly said that as long as America continues the blockade of its ports, it will not allow this waterway to become completely normal. On the other hand, America has also deployed its warships and soldiers in this area and imposed a blockade, so that Iran’s oil exports can be stopped.
