The culture of Assam has now reached the International Space Station, which is a matter of pride for the entire country. Bihu festival celebrated in the month of April was also visible in space this time. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared a video, in which NASA astronaut Mike Finke is seen dancing Bihu inside the space station. He thanked Mike Finke for this special moment and said that it is a matter of great pleasure for the culture of Assam to be recognized across the world.
In the video, Mike Finke is wearing the traditional Gamosa of Assam around his neck. He repeats the style of Bihu dance while dancing inside the space station and is seen dancing Assamese with his hands behind his back. People are liking this scene very much and it is becoming increasingly viral on social media. This is not the first time that Mike Finke has performed Indian dance in space. Even before this, in the year 2004, he had performed Bihu dance while staying at the space station, which was much talked about at that time too.
Bihu in an International Space Station 🌃🚀👨🚀
Kudos to astronaut Mike Fincke for this special gesture to Assam’s culture. It’s wonderful to see Bihu going global, especially after the special focus given by Adarniya Shri. @narendramodi ji during #BihuBinandia. pic.twitter.com/yKcFwCMdDI

Mike Finke is the son-in-law of Assam
People also call Mike Finke the son-in-law of Assam. The reason for this is that his wife Renita Saikia is from Assam and she is also associated with NASA. They have three children, whose names are inspired by Indian names like Chandra and Surya. This is the reason why he has a special connection with Assam. When people saw her performing Bihu dance wearing Gamosa, many became emotional and called it a proud moment. Many people said that the identity of Assam has now reached the space. Mike Finke also visited Assam in 2009, where he told the students that they should dream big and this should not be the last time that Bihu is celebrated in space. Later he went to the space station again in 2025.
