Singer Zubeen Garg’s cousin and Assam Police DSP Sandipan Garg was arrested on Wednesday (8 October 2025) in connection with the death of singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore last month. This is the fifth arrest in this case. Earlier, the chief organizer of ‘North East India Festival’ Shyamkanu Mahanta, the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma and two of his band members Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta were arrested.
“We have arrested Sandipan Garg,” Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Special Director General of Police Munna Prasad Gupta told PTI. Now we are doing the necessary legal formalities.” The police officer arrested in the case of the singer’s death in Singapore has been interrogated several times in the last few days.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and the singer’s cousin Sandipan Garg was present with Zubin during his alleged drowning incident in Singapore. Another senior officer said, “Our team has taken him to court. We will demand police remand.” Four other people arrested earlier in this case are now in police custody. Zubin Garg died while swimming in the sea in Singapore on 19 September. He had gone to the Southeast Asian country to participate in the fourth edition of the North East India Festival organized by Shyamkanu Mahant and his company.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s reaction
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said on Monday that central agencies Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax Department (IT) may conduct raids in Guwahati on Wednesday to investigate the financial matter of the case. According to sources, ED and IT department have started money trail investigation into financial activities related to NEIF.
Zubeen Garg’s wife returned post mortem report
Zubeen Garg’s wife refused to accept the post-mortem report, saying that if someone is guilty, he should be given strict punishment. I have faith in the investigation team, they will bring out the truth. He said that the family hopes that CID, SIT and central agencies will together reveal the truth and provide justice.
