To save Aravalli, one of the most ancient mountain ranges of the country, the National Youth Congress is going to start ‘Aravalli Satyagraha’ from January 7 early next year. This Satyagraha will pass through Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi and will cover a journey of about 1,000 kilometers, which will continue till January 20, 2026.
National Youth Congress National President Uday Bhanu Chib alleged that the BJP government first polluted India’s eternal culture and is now bent on destroying the country’s environment. He said, “Aravalli is one and a half billion years old. These are not just mountains, but the protective shield of North India. Destroying them is playing with the future of the coming generations.”
Government accused of disobeying the Supreme Court
Youth Congress alleges that the Central Government itself proposed to the Supreme Court that hills with a height of less than 100 meters should be excluded from the definition of Aravali. Mining is being promoted on a large scale using this 100 meter maneuver.
Recently the Rajasthan government has issued 50 new mining leases, while the instructions of the Supreme Court were ignored. Not only this, mining activities which were stopped since 2010 have also been restarted without any valid proposal.
Youth Congress put forward three major demands
Youth Congress claims that the Supreme Court had only talked about limited mining of rare earth minerals, but the government is taking advantage of this and handing over the resources to people close to it. Decisions taken in Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh were also cited. To stop this, the National Youth Congress has put forward three major demands. in which,
- The rule of 100 meter height should be completely abolished.
- The entire Aravalli region should be declared a Critical Ecological Zone.
- Illegal and arbitrary mining activities should be stopped immediately.
Congress leaders, Youth Congress workers, environmentalists and common citizens will participate in large numbers in this Satyagraha Yatra. The yatra will be held in hybrid mode so that people from across the country can join it.
