Yediyurappa did not get relief, Karnataka High Court refused to quash POCSO case

Karnataka High Court former Chief Minister B. S. It has refused to cancel the case registered against Yediyurappa under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Hearing on Thursday (November 13, 2025), the court upheld the lower court’s February 28 order to issue summons to Yediyurappa.

According to PTI report, a single bench of Justice M.I. Arun was hearing the case. However, the court has also said that Yediyurappa’s personal presence should not be insisted upon during the trial unless absolutely necessary. The court said that the petition filed by him for any kind of exemption in personal presence should be accepted, but if it is very necessary, he can also be summoned.

The single judge bench also made it clear that BS Yediyurappa is free to request the lower court for relief in the order of issuing summons. In this case, the victim’s mother has filed a complaint, according to which, BS Yediyurappa had sexually abused the 17-year-old victim during a meeting at his residence in Bengaluru in February 2024.

Sadashivnagar police registered a case on March 14, 2024, which was later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CID) for investigation. The agency again filed an FIR and later filed a charge sheet against Yediyurappa. Yediyurappa’s lawyer senior advocate C.V. Nagesh argued that the case was politically motivated and the complaint lacked credibility.

He said that the complainant and her daughter had met the Bengaluru Police Commissioner several times in February 2024, but had not mentioned any allegations till March 14. Senior Advocate Nagesh urged the High Court to quash the proceedings and said that the allegations are baseless. Opposing this, Special Public Prosecutor Prof. Ravivarma Kumar argued that the order of the subordinate court was reasonable and reflected the exercise of proper judicial discretion.
