The Supreme Court has ordered to end a couple’s marriage on Thursday (August 14, 2025). The court directed the husband that he has asked the wife to give 1.25 crore as permanent living allowances. Both have been living separately for 15 years, in such a situation, the court says that this marriage is completely broken and there is no justification for continuing the legal relationship between the two.
According to the PTI report, the bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta was hearing the case. The court said that the couple have been living separately since 2010 and the husband got married in March 2017. The Supreme Court said, ‘We do not see any justification for continuing legal relations between the two sides. The marriage is completely broken. ‘
The husband filed a petition against the Madras High Court’s order of August 2018. The High Court accepted the woman’s petition and in October 2016 canceled the divorce decision given by a family court. Now the Supreme Court accepted the husband’s petition and directed to end the marriage.
The Supreme Court said, ‘It is clear that there is no scope for reconciliation between the two sides. They have been living separately since 2010 i.e. for about 15 years. There is no marital relationship between them and no side has shown any desire to resolve their differences. ‘
The Supreme Court, terming it a suitable case to divorce, used its extraordinary powers gained under Article 142 of the Constitution. The Supreme Court also thought it appropriate to give a lump sum amount to the woman and her son as permanent alimony.
It was brought to the attention of the court that during the legal battle, that person did not provide financial assistance. The Supreme Court said, ‘We instruct the appellant to pay Rs 1.25 crore as permanent alimony and all other claims of the wife will be considered completely.’
