Congress on Thursday (October 9, 2025) has targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for praising Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Congress party said that it is shameful for PM Modi to praise Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, because Netanyahu is responsible for the massacre in Gaza.
Prime Minister Modi on Thursday (October 9, 2025) welcomed the agreement reached on the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for West Asia, under which Israel and Palestinian militant organization Hamas have decided to stop fighting in Gaza. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this agreement is also a reflection of the strong leadership of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Regarding this, Congress Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh shared a post on social media platform X on Thursday (October 9, 2025). In the post, the Congress leader said, ‘The Prime Minister welcomed the new developments regarding Gaza and praised President Trump. Their eagerness to do so is not surprising. But it is indeed shocking, shameful and morally deeply objectionable that Prime Minister Modi’s unconditional praise for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been waging genocide in Gaza for the last 20 months.
He also claimed that the Prime Minister has maintained silence regarding the future of an independent and sovereign Palestine state, whereas India had recognized it in the year 1988 itself and till now more than 150 countries have recognized it.

The Congress leader said, ‘Similarly, Prime Minister Modi has not said anything on the continued expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.’ Congress had last week alleged that to please Trump, Prime Minister Narendra Modi supported the Gaza peace proposal, but remained silent on the massacre in Gaza, which is moral cowardice.

The Gaza issue was also mentioned in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held in Patna last month and the Modi government’s alleged silence on the genocide was described as shameful and alleged that India’s foreign policy has become a stain on morality.
The resolution said, ‘The Working Committee expresses its deep sorrow over the massacre of innocent civilians in Gaza. India, which has always been a symbol of moral consciousness and a leader of the post-colonial world, has been shamefully reduced to a silent spectator by this government.
Hostages will be released under Trump’s proposed peace plan
Under a peace deal presented by the Trump administration, Israel and Hamas have agreed to stop fighting in Gaza and release some hostages. This agreement is the biggest success in the last few months in the devastating war that has been going on for two years.
