Gurmitkal police has registered a case against Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Monday (23 February). The MLA is accused of targeting a particular community in his speech during Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary program on Saturday in Gurmitkal city, for which a case of hate speech has been registered against him.

FIR was registered on the basis of information given by police constable Shivaramreddy. According to the FIR, on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary, Shivaji’s photograph was brought in a procession from Nagreshwar Circle near the city’s bus stand, where Yatnal had given a speech. In the FIR registered, it has been said that Yatnal, who had participated in the program as the chief guest, tried to target a particular community by quoting a Hindi sentence said by a poet.
Also commented on Gandhi-Nehru
It has also been said in the FIR that MLA Yatnal had also commented on Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru in his speech and had said that Mahatma Gandhi was not the President of India, but he was the President of Pakistan. Apart from this, he had also said that Nehru was not the first Prime Minister of India but he was the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The speech of expelled BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal went viral on social media and it was debated that he had given a hate speech targeting a particular community. It is further stated in the FIR that on the basis of the constable’s report, the FIR was registered after taking opinion from legal experts. Let us tell you that this case has been registered under sections 196, 299, 302, 302, 352 and 353 of the Indian Justice Code 2023.
