Before the West Bengal Assembly elections, Trinamool Congress (TMC) General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday (April 5, 2026) made several allegations against the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. He said that TMC has repeatedly come to power in West Bengal by winning the assembly elections, hence the central government has withheld the dues of the state for the last five years to starve the people here.
Center stopped dues of more than Rs 1 lakh crore of the state: Abhishek
According to news agency PTI, while addressing an election rally in Raina in Purba Bardhaman district, Abhishek Banerjee said that if he is lying then BJP should refute him with evidence and send him to jail. He said, ‘The Center has not yet released the dues of more than Rs 1 lakh crore for the state projects. He has done this to starve the poor people of West Bengal, because the people of Bengal have brought Trinamool Congress to power in consecutive assembly elections.
Mamata Banerjee faced all difficulties bravely: Abhishek
Abhishek Banerjee, Lok Sabha MP from Diamond Harbor seat of West Bengal, said, ‘No matter how many difficulties the Center has created, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has faced this challenge boldly and has run schemes like Karmashree for rural employment, Banglar Bari for housing and drinking water supply projects from the state’s own resources.’
He said, ‘TMC always wants to see a smile on your face, while Modi wants to see tears in your eyes because you have repeatedly rejected BJP in the elections.’ Appealing to the people, he said that they should give a befitting reply to the anti-Bengal party for hatching this conspiracy to starve you.
