Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, spoke on phone on Wednesday (October 29, 2025) to the family of a female doctor who allegedly committed suicide in Maharashtra’s Satara district. Rahul Gandhi assured the victim’s family of support in their fight for justice. During a nearly seven-minute phone conversation, the doctor’s mother made an emotional appeal to Rahul Gandhi and urged him to ensure that he gets justice for the grave injustice done to her daughter.
The family members of the female doctor asked Rahul Gandhi to put pressure on the government to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the death case. He said that a week has passed since the doctor’s death and he fears that the evidence will be destroyed. The doctor’s mother said that three-four other people had also put pressure on her daughter, but they were not interrogated or traced. However, he did not explain it in detail.
Maharashtra Congress Chief met the victim’s family
Rahul Gandhi spoke to the parents and siblings of the deceased doctor over the phone of Maharashtra unit of Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal. Sapkal had gone to meet him at Kavargaon in Beed district. The Congress MP assured them that he would put pressure on the government to set up a SIT to investigate the death of the female doctor. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had termed the doctor’s suicide as institutional murder and said it exposed the inhuman and insensitive nature of the BJP-led government.
Two arrests have been made so far in this incident
A 28-year-old female doctor was found hanging in a hotel room in Phaltan town of Satara district of Maharashtra on Thursday night (October 23, 2025). The postmortem report listed the cause of death as suffocation due to hanging, indicating that he had committed suicide.
According to the police, a note was found written on the palm of the woman doctor, in which she alleged that police sub-inspector Gopal Badane raped her multiple times, while software engineer Prashant Bankar mentally tortured her. Both were arrested on 25 October.
Police did not find evidence of forced entry into the hotel room
According to the police, no evidence of forced entry has been found in the hotel room, which does not indicate the presence of anyone else during the incident. Relatives of the female doctor have demanded formation of a SIT. They allege that after his death, important data was erased from his mobile phone. The uncle of the deceased claimed that after her death, the phone was unlocked using her fingerprint and important information related to the incident was erased. Residents of Wadwani, Beed called for a bandh on Tuesday (October 28, 2025) and demanded a SIT investigation into the alleged suicide case.
