Given the increasing tension between Thailand and Cambodia, the Government of India has issued a warning for Indians living in Thailand or planning to travel there. On July 25, the Indian Embassy in Bangkok issued a travel advisory, appealing not to travel in seven sensitive provinces.
The embassy said, in view of the situation near the Thailand-Kambodia border, all Indian travelers are advised to receive updates from the official agencies of Thailand, such as TAT news rooms.
Do not go to these 7 provinces
Thailand’s Tourism Authority (TAT) and Indian Embassy have described these 7 provinces as risky and asked to avoid the journey there. These include- Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, Sisket (Sisaket), Buriram, Sa Kao (SA Kaeo), Chantaburi, Trat (Trat).
TAT has also posted on X and said that due to the unrest on the Thai-Kambodia border, many tourist places in these 7 provinces are no longer good for the journey.
High tension zone vacated
Tension is very high in an area of 40 km along the border. Residents from these areas have been sent to safe places. Ubon Ratchathani now appears deserted through the UN district. The movement of people has become very low. In view of the ongoing clashes near the border, the Thai army has appealed to the people not to go there.
Information about injured
According to the deputy spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand, 14 Thai citizens have been killed and 46 have been injured so far. At the same time, Cambodia has not yet made public information about its casualties, as the Xinhua News Agency reported on Thursday evening.
Humanitarian crisis: more than 1 lakh people displaced
According to the CNN report, more than 1 lakh people have to leave their homes in just two days of the Thailand-Kambodia struggle. The Ministry of Home Affairs of Thailand has confirmed that till Thursday night 1 lakh Thai citizens have been sent to temporary camps. According to local officials in Cambodia, around 4,000 people have been displaced from the border villages of order Meinche province.
Diplomatic solution offering
Thailand on Friday expressed a desire to agree with Malaysia’s mediation for diplomatic talks or ceasefire with Cambodia. Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman Nicorandage said, ‘We are ready if Cambodia wants a solution through diplomatic channels or Malaysia’s mediation. But till now we have not received any answer.
Significantly, Malaysia is currently presiding over ASEAN (Association of Southstian Nations), which has both members of Thailand and Cambodia.
