A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday (July 23, 2025) requesting the removal of Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah to comment against Indian Army officer Colonel Sofia Qureshi. The petition filed on behalf of Congress leader Jaya Thakur states that Vijay Shah’s statement threatens separatist sentiments and unity of the country.

In the petition, Congress leader Jaya Thakur said, “The statement of the Madhya Pradesh minister that Colonel Sophia Qureshi is the sister of the terrorist who attacked in Pahalgam, it promotes the separatist sentiments by accusing any Muslim person. This threatens India’s sovereignty, unity and integrity. This comment is directly a violation of the oath taken under Schedule Three of the Constitution of India. ”
Supreme Court three -member in Vijay Shah’s case SIT Was done
On May 28, the Supreme Court ordered the closure of proceedings in the Madhya Pradesh High Court against Vijay Shah’s comment on May 28, saying that it would look into the matter. The Supreme Court has sought a report report from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Madhya Pradesh government in compliance with its earlier order.
On May 19, the Supreme Court reprimanded Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah and formed a three -member SIT for investigation in the case registered against him.
The leader made a statement while commenting on terrorists during Operation Sindoor
Vijay Shah was under criticism when a video broadcast widely broadcast, in which he was seen allegedly making objectionable remarks against Colonel Qureshi. During the press conference on ‘Operation Sindoor’, Colonel Qureshi and Women’s Officer Wing Commander Vyomika Singh in the Indian Air Force informed the country.
Madhya Pradesh High Court reprimanded Vijay Shah with Supreme Court
The Madhya Pradesh High Court reprimanded Vijay Shah for making derogatory remarks against Colonel Qureshi and using indecent language and ordered the police to file an FIR against him for promoting malice and hatred. After being reprimanded by the court and strong condemnation, Vijay Shah regretted and said that he respects Colonel Qureshi more than his sister.
