Uproar over Namaz in Pune’s Shaniwarwada, politics intensifies over ‘purification’ with cow urine; Maulana Sajid Rashidi’s first reaction

Controversy has arisen over some Muslim women offering Namaz in Shaniwarwada, Pune. Hindu organizations first protested against this and carried out ‘purification’ there with cow urine and then in this matter Cabinet Minister Nitish Rane said that if Namaz can be offered at Hindu religious places then Hanuman Chalisa can be recited at Haji Ali Dargah also. After this matter gained momentum, now Maulana Sajid Rashidi has entered it.

Maulana Sajid Rashidi, President of All India Imam Association, took a tough stand on the recent religious controversies and targeted political parties. The incident of ‘purification’ by Hindu organizations with cow urine after Muslim women offered namaz was termed as ‘politics of hate’. While talking to IANS, Sajid Rashidi also gave a sharp reaction to Maharashtra government minister Nitish Rane’s statement of reciting Hanuman Chalisa at Haji Ali Dargah and Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan’s controversial statement of lighting a lamp.

Rashidi said, “It is a palace, a historical place under ASI, not a religious place. It is like Delhi’s India Gate or Red Fort. If it is time for Namaz and someone offers it, then what kind of disaster is there? But Hindu organizations washed it with cow urine the next day, which made the place more impure.”

Cow urine can be your faith – Maulana Sajid Rashidi

Maulana Sajid Rashidi said, “Cow urine may be your faith, but not everyone’s. In our place, if cow urine gets on the body, then Namaz will not be offered. What is the fault of those Muslim women? They had come for a walk, when it was time for Namaz, they read. This is a government place, not anyone’s property. Hindus have rights and so do Muslims. Who are the ones who purify? The FIR against those women is wrong, against the Constitution. FIR should be filed against those who sprinkled cow urine. This is a vote bank game. Such people do not want Hindu-Muslim unity. They are spreading the words of General Asim Munir.”

Reaction on Nitesh Rane’s statement

Taking a dig at Nitish Rane’s statement on Haji Ali, Rashidi said, “If you offer Namaz at a tourist place, then why would you offer Hanuman Chalisa in a Dargah? We did not offer Namaz in your temple. Nitesh Rane will not even remember Hanuman Chalisa, I assure you. He is spreading hatred. He is cutting the roots of BJP. Muslims want to come towards BJP but run away from such statements. Long innings.” want to play So take Muslims along or stop the sparks of hatred. “Put tape on their mouth, cancel their membership.”

One should speak carefully in this government – Rashidi

On Azam Khan’s statement that lamp-lighters can light anything, Rashidi said, “Lighting a lamp is a matter of faith. Azam was jailed for this. It seems that he has liked the bread in the jail and he is not liking the bread outside. How will you feel if there are indecent remarks on Namaz? One should speak with caution in this government. Avoid such statements.”
