Unlawful custody case of Bengali Muslims in Delhi, Owaisi targeted

In various parts of the country including Delhi, reports of illegal detention of Bengali -speaking Muslim citizens and pushing them across the border are catching up. All India Majlis-e-Ittehad Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has raised the issue vigorously, alleging that the government is softening in front of the tightening and powerful with the poor. This dispute has created a stir in the political corridors.

Recently on social media, Owaisi shared a notice of Gujarat Police, in which helpline numbers have been issued to identify the suspected “illegal migrants”. He claimed that Bengali speaking poor laborers, such as slum-developers, cleaning workers and Radi-laborers, are being targeted repeatedly, as they are unable to compete with police atrocities.

India pushed more than 1,200 people into Bangladesh
According to the report of Nikkei Asia, people like Raddi-Mazdoor Mohammad Shamsu of Delhi are living for fear of Departation. The BBC report claimed that India pushed over 1,200 people into Bangladesh, including 100 Indian citizens. Owaisi said that custody on the basis of language is illegal and the constitution is a violation of civil rights provided. The Ministry of Home Affairs had set a time limit of 30 days in May 2025 to identify illegal migrants, after which these incidents have increased.

Shocking disclosure in a CNN report
A CNN report revealed that 60% of those who died in police custody in 2019 were poor and marginalized communities, such as Muslims and Dalits. At the same time, news of sales of fake Aadhaar cards and passports (20,000 to 2 lakh rupees) was raising concerns. Legal experts believe that detention and deployment without procedure is a violation of human rights. Bangladesh has increased patrolling on the border, but India has not yet given any official response. Meanwhile, the opposition has called it a revenge action against the poor, which has deepened political tension.
