The 5 people who were summoned by the court are Raina, Vipun Goyal, Balraj Ghai, Sonali Thakkar and Nishant Tanwar. Earlier, all of them also appeared on July 15. The bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi has exempted them from personal appearance in the next hearing. However, the judges have said that he will also consider imposing a fine on these people. That amount will be used in work related to Divyang Kalyan.
During the hearing, Attorney General R Venkatarmani appeared on behalf of the Union Ministry of Information Broadcasting. He informed that the ministry is going to make guidelines regarding such programs. In those guidelines, it will be taken care that there is comedy without hurting the honor of a person or group.
The ongoing hearing in the court is going on on May 5 on the complaint made by the institution of ‘Cure SMA’. This institution, which helped patients with the problem of spinal muscular atrophy, had complained about some videos of Raina and Vipun Goyal. Senior advocate Aparajita Singh, appearing for the institution, had told that these people have made fun of people struggling with serious physical problems.
During the hearing, Justice Surya Kant had strongly criticized such a joke as insensitive. He said that it cannot be said to make anyone mockery and degrade him. The judge said, “All this comes under the purview of Hate Speech (speech spreading hatred). We know how to deal with it.”
