An earthquake of 2.7 magnitude occurred in Assam on Saturday (October 18, 2025). According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter of this earthquake that occurred on Saturday morning was located at latitude 24.84 degrees north and longitude 93.20 degrees east. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers in Cachar district.
On an average, more than 5 earthquakes are occurring every day in neighboring countries including India. According to the report of geological activities of National Seismology Center in 169 seismic stations present across the country, a total of 1467 earthquakes have been recorded from January to September this year. Of these, India was the center of 382 cases.
Assam, Arunachal and Manipur very sensitive
In terms of geological movements, the north-eastern and northern regions have been most active in the last 9 months. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the north-east region 180 times, while earthquakes in the northern region frightened people 92 times. North-eastern states like Assam, Arunachal and Manipur are very sensitive from earthquake point of view.

Apart from this, whenever the earth shakes throughout the year, the epicenter of the earthquake has been Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tibet and Bhutan. Geologists believe that these continuous tremors are part of a general geological movement. Despite this, scientists are expressing fear of a major earthquake.
North India more sensitive to earthquake
North India is more sensitive to earthquakes than South India. In North India, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are the most sensitive. Apart from this, all the states of North East have been kept in sensitive category. There is a danger of earthquake in Delhi NCR also.
Talking about South India, Satya Sai, Prakasam in Andhra Pradesh and Asifabad in Telangana and Kalaburagi, Vijayapura and Kodagu in Karnataka are among the sensitive areas.
