Wednesday (24 December 2025) was a special day in Maharashtra politics. Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray, who were separated for two decades, formally announced the alliance. Shiv Sena UBT and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena will also jointly contest the Mumbai Municipal Corporation and other municipal elections around Mumbai.
‘Mumbai and Marathi united for the interests of the man’
Thackeray brothers said that they have united for the interests of Mumbai and Marathi people, while BJP has taken a dig at this alliance. BJP said that both the parties have come together to save their existence. Both the brothers held a press conference with the announcement of the alliance. Bala Saheb Thackeray’s picture was also placed behind the stage. Uddhav Thackeray clearly said in the press conference that this alliance is not just an electoral agreement but an oath to fight together and stand together.
Uddhav said, ‘We have united only to live together. If anyone casts an evil eye on Mumbai or Maharashtra, we will end their politics. We have come together with this resolve. Targeting the BJP, Uddhav reminded that during the assembly elections, the opposition had falsely propagated that if they are cut, they will be divided. Uddhav said, now we want to tell the Marathi people that if you still fail, you will be destroyed. If there is division among themselves, you will be completely wiped out. Emphasizing on Marathi identity, Uddhav said that a Marathi man does not come in anyone’s way, but if someone comes in his way then he does not even let him go back.
Will contest elections of other municipalities including BMC
The two brothers will jointly contest the elections not only of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, but also of the major municipalities around the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, namely Thane, Mira-Bhayander, Kalyan-Dombivli and Navi Mumbai. Apart from this, this alliance will also field jointly in big cities like Nashik and Pune. During the press conference, Thackeray brothers claimed that the next mayor of Mumbai will be a Marathi. That will come only through their alliance. This statement clearly shows the political strategy of their alliance and the emphasis given on Marathi identity.
