The Supreme Court has expressed strict displeasure over a case related to the mother’s fleeing with the child. The court has asked the Delhi Police to file an FIR for negligence. Also, the central government has asked to contact the Russian government through the Indian Embassy in Moscow. Efforts should be made to present the woman and the child in the Supreme Court. The court has said the next hearing after 10 days.
There had been a dispute between Indian citizen Saikat Basu and his Russian wife Victoria for a long time. Both have a 4 and a half year old child. Victoria had taken permission from the Supreme Court to keep the child together for 3 days a week. Under this system, when the child was with her, she disappeared with her.
Russia escaped woman so far
On July 17, the Supreme Court took the case seriously and sought a report from Delhi Police in 24 hours. The court also allowed Delhi Police to search the house of the Russian Embassy officer who allegedly helped Victoria.
On July 21, the central government told the court that Victoria had left the country. After entering Nepal via Bihar, she first moved to UAE and then from there to Russia. In the hearing held on Friday (August 01, 2025), Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati told the bench headed by Justice Surya Kant that the woman has not yet been detected.
Court reprimanded police
The judges expressed strong displeasure over the entire incident. The court said, ‘This is not a simple matter of mutual dispute between parents. The child has been taken away from the custody of the Supreme Court. We had ordered the police to monitor the woman. She went to Bihar in a taxi from Delhi, the police did not know. Apart from the woman in this case, careless police officers have also clearly contested the court. Further action will be taken in this regard.
Justice Kant directed the police to register a case and said, ‘The police did not take this crime seriously. It is clear that fake documents were also made to escape from the country. Police should register a case under appropriate sections. The central government should contact Russia and try to present the woman and child in the court.
