Supreme Court ordered to remove stray dogs from schools, colleges, hospitals and other buildings, also asked to remove cows and bulls from highways.

The Supreme Court has given an important order regarding stray dogs and other animals. The court has asked to remove stray dogs from all educational institutions, hospitals, bus depots, railway stations, government offices and sports complexes. Along with this, the court has also asked to remove stray cows and bulls from highways and expressways.

The bench of Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice NV Anjaria has asked all the state governments and concerned institutions to comply with this order within 8 weeks. The next hearing of the case will be on January 13.

The court has given this order on stray dogs: –

• All stray dogs should be removed from public institutions and premises.
• Sterilization and vaccination of the dogs removed under Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023 should be done.
• Dogs should not be left back at the same place. they should be kept in shelter home
• It will be the responsibility of the Municipal Corporation, Panchayat or local body to follow this order.
• All states should, within 2 weeks, prepare a list of such institutions and premises which fall in the category specified by the court.
• Every institution should appoint a nodal officer who will monitor the cleanliness of the premises and prevention of stray dogs.
• The name and contact number of that officer should be displayed at the entrance.
• The local body should inspect every 3 months to ensure that there is no dog living in the premises.

Along with this, the Supreme Court has asked to implement the order of Rajasthan High Court regarding stray cows and bulls on the roads in the entire country. The court has said that it is the responsibility of the state governments to remove stray animals roaming on the roads and highways. For this, state governments should form patrol teams, which will continuously monitor the roads. A helpline number should also be issued, through which people can give information about stray animals on the road. Cow sheds and other permanent shelters should be built for these animals.
