A case of alleged rape of a second year student of a private medical college in Durgapur, West Bengal has come to light inside the college hospital premises. This incident is reminiscent of the 2024 RG Kar Medical College case that shook the state, in which a junior doctor was raped and murdered.
The accused dragged the student from near the campus
The student is a resident of Jaleshwar, Odisha and is a student of MBBS in a private medical college located in Shobhapur area of Durgapur. According to police sources, the student had gone to eat outside the campus with her classmates around 8:30 pm on Friday night. During his return journey, 2-3 youths allegedly came in his way. One of them snatched the student’s mobile phone, while the other dragged her to a deserted place and raped her. Later, the victim’s partner got her admitted to the same medical college. Police said that investigation is going on on the complaint of gangrape. The statement of the victim has been recorded and the role of her partner is also being investigated.
National Commission for Women visits the incident site
National Commission for Women will go to the spot at Durgapur Medical College on Saturday (October 11, 2025). Commission member Archana Majumdar said that such crimes are increasing in the state because criminals are not punished.
Director of Health Education asked for report
Health Education Director Indrajit Saha has asked the private medical college to submit the report immediately. According to Swasthya Bhawan sources, the police investigation is also being monitored.
Father raised questions on security
The victim’s father said, ‘If there was security in the hospital, my daughter would not have been in this situation.’ On the other hand, Durgapur Medical College is in turmoil due to the alleged gang rape allegations of a student from another state. Students staged a silent protest regarding the incident.
