SIR, BLO’s death and Delhi blasts… Congress will corner Parliament on these issues, what is the government’s agenda?


A meeting of the Parliamentary Strategy Group of Congress was held under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi on Sunday (30 November 2025) regarding the winter session of Parliament. The opposition parties in one voice raised the demand that the Special Intensive Review (SIR) should be discussed, which is likely to lead to a stormy start to the winter session. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi told in the meeting of Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group on which important issues the opposition is going to question the government.

On which issues will Congress corner the Centre?

According to sources, in the Congress meeting, party MP Rahul Gandhi said that the suicide of BLO in SIR is a serious issue and this issue will be raised in Parliament. He said, “In the name of SIR, BJP is preparing its own voter list by removing backward, Dalit, deprived poor voters from the list. MPs will have to raise this issue.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that all MPs should raise local issues of their respective areas in the House. He described internal security as a big issue and said that the terrorist attack in Delhi was a big mistake. In the meeting, he said that pressure will have to be put on the government to discuss the issue of air pollution in the House.

Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, senior party leaders P Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh, Pramod Tiwari, Syed Nasir Hussain, Manikam Tagore and some other leaders attended the meeting. After the meeting, Deputy Leader of Congress in Rajya Sabha Pramod Tiwari said that electoral reforms have been discussed many times before, hence there should be no avoidance of discussion this time again. He said that discussion on electoral reforms is the top priority of the Congress.

Central government can present 14 bills

The government said that Parliament proceedings should proceed smoothly and it will continue talks with opposition parties to avoid a deadlock. After the all-party meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said in a joking tone that this is the winter session and everyone should work with a cool mind. Encouraged by the landslide victory of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Bihar Assembly elections, the Central Government can present 14 MLAs in this session.

SIR issue dominated the all-party meeting

Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress and many other opposition parties prominently raised the issue of national security in the backdrop of the Delhi blasts along with the SIR in the all-party meeting called a day before the beginning of the session. Along with this, he urged for discussion on air pollution, foreign policy, condition of farmers, inflation, unemployment and some other topics during the session.

Lok Sabha allotted 10 hours for discussion

After the all-party meeting, meetings of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were held on Sunday evening, in which the opposition demanded discussion on the broader issue of electoral reforms. The government assured the opposition that it would soon give its opinion on this. The government insisted on discussion on the 150th anniversary of the composition of Vande Mataram, but many opposition parties did not show enthusiasm about it. Lok Sabha has allotted 10 hours for discussion and the date will be decided by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
