The military cooperation between the two countries has increased once again before Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India. The annual exercise between India and Russian forces ‘Indra’ (INDRA) has resumed after a gap of four years.
‘Indra-2025’ has started from Monday (October 6, 2025) in the Mahajan Field Firing Range of Rajasthan, which will conclude on Wednesday (October 15, 2025) next week. The formal opening ceremony of military exercise attended the exercise supervisor Major General Andre Kojlov and military troops of the two countries including Major General Sanjay Chandra Kandpal, Commander of Gandiv Division of the Indian Army.
Russia and India’s shared Indra Military Exercise started in 2003
Russia’s Defense Ministry announced Indra exercise by sharing photos and videos of the inauguration ceremony. Since 2003, a shared military exercise Indra is organized between India and Russia. These exercises organize the Army, Air Force and Navy of both countries. Even in the year 2017, the armies of the two countries organized the TRAI-Service Indra Exercise.
Indra exercise was stopped due to Ukraine war being tangled by Russia
Indra exercise was stopped since the Russia-Ukraine War started in 2022. The last Indra Exercise was held in the year 2021. Because the Russian army was entangled in war with Ukraine. Russia has once again started war-marks after taking an edge in Ukraine Jung. Last month, Russia organized the ‘Japaad’ multinational exercise with Belarus, in which a military contingent and military observer from a dozen countries, including India, China, Pakistan and America, participated.

The purpose of Indra exercise is to increase coordination and harmony between the armies of the two countries, including a shared fight against international terrorism. Through exercise, the armies of the two countries are also involved in improving the strategy of anti-terrorism campaigns.
