The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday (August 15, 2025) rejected the Congress’s criticism of praising the RSS in its Independence Day speech. Along with this, the party said that the ideology of the Hindutva organization is shaping the folk discourse of India today.
BJP’s IT department chief Amit Malviya reminded that the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru invited the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to attend the Republic Day Parade in 1963 and described it as an organization of patriots.

At the same time, reacting to the criticism of Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, he said, “On completion of 100 years of RSS, it is appropriate that Prime Minister Modi should mention it from the Red Fort. Today, the ideology of RSS is shaping the folk discourse of India, while the Congress is isolated not only from the realities of our time, but also from Nehru.

Modi, in his address to the ramparts of the Red Fort, mentioned the completion of 100 years of the establishment of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and said that the country is proud of this organization’s visit to the nation. He also said that RSS is the largest NGO in the world and it will continue to inspire.
Congress and CPI (M) RSS Described praise as a violation of secularism
Reacting to this, the Congress said that Prime Minister Modi has praised the RSS and violated the spirit of constitutional and secular Republic and tried to please the RSS. Congress and some other opposition parties targeted the Prime Minister for praising the RSS.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “Today, the most disturbing aspect of the Prime Minister’s speech was to take the name of the RSS from the ramparts of the Red Fort, which is a severe violation of the spirit of a constitutional, secular republic.”
At the same time, the Marxist Communist Party (CPI -M) alleged that Prime Minister Modi has praised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from the ramparts of the Red Fort and insulted the memory of those who were martyred for the independence of the country.
