Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s alleged sarcastic statement on Hindu Gods and Goddesses has created an uproar in the politics of the state. His light-hearted but controversial comments given in the Congress Working Committee meeting have enraged the opposition parties, especially the BJP. Calling it ‘anti-Hindu’, the BJP has announced protests across the state, including burning of Reddy’s replicas. State BJP chief G. Ramachandra Rao has made a strong demand for an apology, while BRS also called it an insult to the sentiments of crores of Hindus.
What did CM Revanth Reddy say about Hindu gods?,
Linking the party’s diversity to the pluralism of Hinduism, Revanth Reddy said at the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday (December 2, 2025), “How many gods are there in Hinduism? Three crore? Why? Hanuman for the unmarried, another god for those who marry twice, another for those who drink alcohol. Yellamma, Pochamma, Maisamma… Gods for those demanding chicken, dal-rice.” Even for the eaters.”

He said it humorously, but the opposition considered it an insult to the gods. Reddy further said, “One person worships Venkateswara, another Hanuman. Some observe Ayyappa fast and some observe Shiva fast. How will there be consensus among political leaders if there is no consensus on the deities, but there should be healthy differences.” His intention was to give a message to the party leaders to forget personal differences and unite, but as soon as the video went viral, controversy broke out.

BJP reacted sharply. State President Mr. Ramachandra Rao posted on social media platform
He announced statewide protests on Wednesday (December 3, 2025), which will include burning of Reddy’s statues. Revanth’s statement exposes his thinking – Bundy Sanjay Kumar
Union Minister Bundy Sanjay Kumar also attacked on social media, saying, “I strongly condemn Revanth Reddy’s statements insulting Hindus and Gods. Congress has deep hatred towards Hindus. Revanth himself had said that Congress is a Muslim party, this exposes his thinking. In the Jaipur House by-election, we had warned that if Congress or BRS came to power, Hindus would not be able to walk on the streets with dignity. This statement proves that we were right.” After this the Union Minister appealed to the Hindu community to unite. He said, “Will you bear the insult by remaining divided or will you show strength by uniting? BJP never insults other religions.”
The time has come for Hindus to unite in Telangana – G. Kishan Reddy
Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy issued a statement saying, “In Jubilee Hills by-pass, Revanth had said, ‘Congress means Muslim, Muslim means Congress’. He said, “Due to his friendship with AIMIM, he is making arrogant comments on Hindu deities. The time has come for Hindus to unite in Telangana. Revanth and Congress will have to be taught a lesson by the power of vote.”
BJP and BRS leaders condemned the CM
BJP leader Chikkoti Praveen said, “Hindus across the state are embarrassed. Congress and Revanth are not ashamed. In every meeting they say that Congress is there because of Muslims. The Chief Minister should withdraw the statement and apologise.” While BRS leader Rakesh Reddy Anugula wrote on the BJP had also strongly condemned it.
Congress gave clarification on the controversy
Amidst the attacks from the opposition, Congress clarified that Reddy’s statement was being presented out of context. The party spokesperson said, “This was a humorous example, which shows diversity. There was no intention of insulting it, but the threat of demonstration has raised the political temperature.” Experts believe that this controversy may affect Hindu votes in the upcoming Panchayat elections. Amidst the appeal for Hindu unity in the state, the question is arising whether Reddy will apologize or use the controversy as a political weapon?
