Recovery of Rs 155 crore from those traveling without ticket, Western Railway made bumper earnings, this much collection in Mumbai only.

In Mumbai, Western Railway of Indian Railways has taken strict action against those traveling without tickets and irregularly. Here, fines worth more than ₹ 155 crore have been collected through ticket checking campaigns during April to December 2025. This figure is about 49 percent more than the same period last year.

How much has been recovered from Mumbai suburban?

According to Western Railways, ‘In order to provide safe and comfortable travel facilities to the passengers, intensive ticket checking campaigns are being conducted continuously in Mumbai Suburban, Mail-Express, Passenger and Holiday Special trains. Highly motivated ticket checking teams under the supervision of senior commercial officials conducted several special drives during this period, resulting in a total recovery of ₹155.46 crore. This includes recovery of ₹41.26 crore from Mumbai suburban section alone.

What information did the public relations officer give?

Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek said that in December 2025 alone, 2.51 lakh cases of passengers traveling without tickets or traveling irregularly were identified. A fine of ₹15.54 crore was collected from them. This is about 42 percent more than the month of December last year. At the same time, during December 2025, in other campaigns, a fine of ₹ 3.95 crore was also received from 92 thousand cases.

Surprise ticket checking campaign was conducted

Regular surprise ticket checking campaigns were also conducted to prevent unauthorized entry into AC local trains. During April to December 2025, about 91 thousand unauthorized passengers were identified in AC local trains, from whom a fine of ₹ 2.97 crore was collected. This figure is about 97 percent more than the same period last year.

Western Railways says that these results reflect the Railways’ commitment towards effective control on ticketless travel, improving passenger experience and protecting public revenue. Western Railway has appealed to the general public to always travel with proper and valid tickets while travelling.
