Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to visit Kerala and Tamil Nadu today on Wednesday (March 11, 2026). During his visit to the two states, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth more than Rs 16,000 crore. These projects include important sectors like petroleum and natural gas infrastructure, road and railway development, rural connectivity and clean energy. The Prime Minister will also address the people during programs in both the states.
Projects worth Rs 10,800 crore in Ernakulam, Kerala
The Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several projects worth about Rs 10,800 crore in Ernakulam, Kerala at around 1:30 pm. During this, he will lay the foundation stone of Polypropylene Unit at Kochi Refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). More than Rs 5,500 crore will be invested in this project and its annual production capacity will be 400 kilo tonnes.
Polypropylene is used in the manufacturing of packaging, automobile parts, medical equipment, textiles and household items. This will increase polymer manufacturing capacity in India, reduce dependence on imports and create employment opportunities.
- Road infrastructure projects-
In the field of road infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra will inaugurate two big highway projects. One of these includes the expansion of Thalpadi-Chengla section of National Highway-66 to six lanes, which costs about Rs 2,650 crore. This project is part of the Mumbai-Kanyakumari Economic Corridor and will improve connectivity of many areas including Kasaragod and Kannur.
The second major road project is the six-lane expansion of Kozhikode bypass between Vengalam to Ramanattukara, which is expected to cost around Rs 2,140 crore. This project will reduce the problem of traffic jam and the travel time will reduce from one hour to about 15 to 20 minutes. This will make access to tourist places like Kozhikode Beach, Beypore Port and Kappad Beach easier.
Other projects-
- Apart from this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also inaugurate 23 rural roads built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Kerala. This will improve access to markets, education and health services in remote areas.
- Three railway stations redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme – Shoranur Junction, Kuttippuram Railway Station and Changanassery Railway Station – will be handed over to the country.
- The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the electrification project of Shoranur-Nilambur Road Railway Line and flag off the new train service between Pallakad and Pollachi.
- Also, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of a 50 MW floating solar project in West Kallad in Kollam district of Kerala.
Projects worth Rs 5,650 crore in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will leave for Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu after the conclusion of the program in Ernakulam, Kerala. Where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth more than Rs 5,650 crore at around 5:45 pm.
Projects in the field of petroleum and gas-
- In the field of petroleum and gas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the City Gas Distribution Network Project of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), which will be established in Nilgiri and Erode districts. There will be an investment of more than Rs 3,680 crore in this project, which will provide piped natural gas (PNG) to more than 8.8 lakh houses and more than 201 CNG stations will be built.
- PM Modi will also hand over the Lube Blending Plant of Indian Oil Corporation located in Manali, Chennai to the country. This plant has a capacity of 672 thousand metric tons per year. About Rs 1,490 crore has been spent in its construction.
Other projects-
- Apart from this, PM Modi will inaugurate 89 370 km long rural roads built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. After this, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of a greenfield bypass on National Highway-81 near Gangaikonda Cholapuram.
- In the railway sector, the Prime Minister will flag off two Amrit Bharat Express trains, two express trains and one passenger train service in Tamil Nadu. This will further strengthen the rail network between many states including Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala.
