Qasim Khan, son of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is lodged in Pakistan’s Adiala jail, has created a stir in the country with his speech given at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva. Pakistan’s Shahbaz Sharif government has become so enraged by Qasim Khan’s speech that it has termed this speech as a conspiracy to harm the country. The Pakistan government said that Qasim Khan has tried to weaken the country’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP Plus) status through his speech.
Pakistan’s Union Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Punjab Province Information Minister Azma Bukhari and Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon have criticized Imran Khan’s son Qasim Khan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zulfi Bukhari. He said that this is a completely well-planned conspiracy, the aim of which is to snatch away the GSP Plus status of Pakistan.

Qasim Khan, son of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, during his address to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Wednesday (March 25, 2026) appealed that the UN should put pressure on the Shehbaz Sharif government of Pakistan to immediately release his father Imran Khan from jail. He said, ‘We request the UNHRC to press Pakistan to end the harassment against PTI Chief Imran Khan and immediately release him from jail and the Government of Pakistan should follow the opinion of the UN Working-Group and release him (Imran Khan).
Pakistan ministers accused Qasim
Accusing Qasim Khan, Pakistan’s ministers said that the aim of Qasim and his associates is to end Pakistan’s GSP Plus status. This anti-Pakistan group is working closely with the Israeli lobby in the European Union and people associated with the banned Baluchistan Liberation Army (BLA).
What is Pakistan’s GSP Plus status?
Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP Plus) is a special incentive scheme that provides exemption from import tariffs on two-thirds of the country’s export products to developing countries in exchange for promoting sustainable development and governance. This status is considered very important for Pakistan’s exports and employment. Pakistan’s ministers say that after getting GSP status, the country’s exports have increased by 40 percent.
