Old car will be expensive, preparations to cut pockets in the name of fitness test

New Delhi. The government is planning to withdraw more money from the pockets of older vehicles. If you have a car more than 20 years old, now you may have to spend ₹ 2,600 to get its fitness test done. At the same time, owners of trucks and buses older than 15 years may have to pay ₹ 25,000 for this.

In fact, the Ministry of Road Transport has proposed a tremendous increase in fitness test fees. Till now there was not much expenditure for private vehicles, but if the new rules are implemented, it will be mandatory for every old vehicle to get a fitness test and its cost will increase many times before. This will directly affect the pockets of the common vehicle owners.

The government says that the purpose of this step is to discourage people from keeping old vehicles on the road. Older vehicles spread more pollution and sometimes also cause road accidents. The ministry believes that when the test fees increase so much, people will leave the old vehicles and move towards buying new vehicles.

The most impact on truck and bus owners

Commercial vehicles will be affected more than private vehicles. According to the proposal, separate fees will be fixed for commercial vehicles older than 10, 13, 15 and 20 years old. Till now, the fitness fees of vehicles older than 15 and 20 years were the same, but now the fees of vehicles more than 20 years old will be doubled.

Commercial vehicle owners are already facing the rising price of petrol and diesel and tax. In such a situation, so much cost of fitness test can be overshadowed by them. Especially for small trucks and bus owners, whose income is limited.

What are the rules so far?

Commercial Vehicles: Fitness test every two years for eight years, then every year.

Private Vehicles: Fitness test at the time of registration renewal after 15 years and then every five years.
