The Supreme Court has issued a notice to all the states on the demand to stop online betting. A answer has already been sought from the Center in the case. The Supreme Court has said to hear on August 18. In the hearing held on Friday (July 01, 2025), the court has issued notices to RBI, TRAI, ED and some gaming companies besides states.
Large popular faces are promoting
Christian preacher K.A. Paul’s petition has demanded that online betting be declared gambling and closure. The petitioner has said that big actors and players promote the betting app. Millions of people are losing their money in them. Thousands of people have committed suicide due to this in Telangana alone. More than 25 Bollywood and Tollywood actors are attracting people by promoting the online betting app. The player called the God of cricket is also promoting it.
The petitioner requested the court
The petitioner, appearing before the bench headed by Justice Suryakant, requested to issue an interim order. He said that orders should be given to remove online betting apps from the court Play Store and Apple’s app store, prevent big celebrities from its advertising and stop broadcasting advertisements. The court said that he will consider these things in the next hearing.
