Tamil actor Vijay’s political party Tamilga Vatri Kazhagam (TVK) has challenged the Madras High Court order to set up a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the Karur stampede in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court agreed to hear this petition on Friday (October 10, 2025).
Chief Justice B. R. Gawai and Justice K. A bench of Vinod Chandran noticed the argument of the lawyer that the petition filed through TVK Secretary Adhav Arjun should be listed for hearing.
TVK requested Supreme Court
The bench on Tuesday agreed to hear the petition of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Anandan on October 10, challenging the High Court order to refuse to investigate the stampede on September 27 with the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI).
The Chief Justice agreed to hear this petition on Friday with other petitions. TVK has requested an independent inquiry under the supervision of the Supreme Court and argued that it will not be possible if only Tamil Nadu Police officials do fair investigation.
Objection to setting up SIT in petition
Please tell that 41 people were killed and more than 60 people were injured in Karur stampede. Police said that 27,000 people attended the rally, which was about three times the expected number of people coming to the program about three times more than 10,000. The police also blamed the delay of seven hours in Vijay’s arrival at the venue.
In the petition, the High Court has objected to the setting up of SIT with Tamil Nadu Police officials only. The petition alleged that the pre -planned conspiracy of some miscreants in the case is expected, which caused a stampede.
Actor Vijay reached the rally with a delay of seven hours
The petition has also objected to the sharp remarks of the High Court against the party and the actor -turned -leader Vijay that he left after the incident and did not express any regret. The police also blamed the delay of seven hours in Vijay’s arrival at the venue for the incident.
