This incident happened near Needle Rock View Point, causing chaos in the area. However, after a rescue operation that lasted 13 hours, the young man was taken out safely.

Shivagurunathan, a resident of Chennai, had come to visit the Nilgiris and reached the famous view point of Gudalur. It is being told that he was taking a selfie while standing on the edge of the cliff, when he lost his balance and fell straight into a deep ditch. Seeing this, the tourists present there got scared and immediately the fire department, forest department and police were informed.

Rescue operation continued throughout the night

As soon as the information was received, the rescue team reached the spot and started searching for the young man, but due to darkness there were difficulties in the rescue operation. After this, Gudalur Fire Service took the help of Coonoor Military Rescue Team. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, Nilgiri MP A. Raja also contacted the district administration and military officials and gave instructions to speed up the rescue work.

After the overnight operation, the rescue operation was intensified in the morning with the help of a military helicopter. After several hours of hard work, the rescue team reached the young man and pulled him out safely.

Seriously injured youth admitted to hospital

According to the rescue team, Shivagurunathan was seriously injured after falling into the ditch and was unable to even call for help. He was given nutritious drink as first aid and was immediately taken out and sent to the hospital. At present the young man is undergoing treatment at Ooty Government Medical College Hospital. According to doctors, his condition is said to be stable but he has suffered several injuries.

Officials said that if the youth had become unconscious, the rescue operation could have been even more difficult. This incident has once again highlighted the dangers of carelessness and selfies at tourist places. The local administration and police have appealed to tourists to avoid taking selfies at dangerous places, as a small mistake can prove fatal.
