New Fastag Rules of NHAI: Mandatory to paste correctly on the windshield.

Last updated:

NHAI has implemented new rules of Fastag, in which it is mandatory to correctly paste on the windshield. If you show in the hand, you may have to give toll twice and there may be a blacklist.

Government may have to bear the focus on those who show fastag

Highlights

  • It is mandatory to paste the fastag correctly on the windshield.
  • Toll may have to be given twice when showing fastag in the hand.
  • Fastag can be blacklisted if not applied correctly.
NHAI has recently implemented new rules regarding the use of Fastag, and this time the government is ready to show strictness. Now only fastag will not be seen by hand. According to the changes in the rules, it will be mandatory to correctly paste the fastag on the windshield (glass) of the vehicle.

If a tag will be loose-lax fastag or it will not be in place and the driver will try to show it in his hand, then he may not only have to toll twice but his fastag can also be blacklisted. NHAI has asked all toll plazas to report such vehicles immediately, so that their fastag can be blocked by the system.

Digital tolling system is being promoted

Moving towards the new digital tolling system, this step will prove to be particularly beneficial, as it can see a decrease in both toll theft and heavy traffic jams. The government has implemented this change so that time wastage and system disturbances can be avoided at the toll plaza. If the fastag would not have been fitted on the windshield correctly, then the digital scanner will not be able to read the tag and the transaction may be canceled or double. This will not only cause a lot of trouble to the driver, but will also increase the delay in fast running lines.

The new rule increases the responsibility of both the driver and the vehicle owner. Now they will have to buy Fastag and paste it properly as well as check their scan and validity from time to time so that they can be avoided to be blacklist. If someone’s tag is blocked, then he may have to work extra time and hard to activate it again.

Negligence related to fastag will not work

On 11 July 2025, NHAI made it clear that now there will be no negligence about the fastag. He has instructed all toll collection agencies that if a vehicle owner does not properly put the fastag on the glass in front of the vehicle and tries to show it in his hand, then he should be reported immediately. Based on that report, NHAI will blacklist such fastag.

Blackist can be fastag

NHAI has provided a special email ID to toll collection agencies, through which they can immediately send information about such vehicles whose fastag would not have been imposed properly or whose drivers try to show it in hand. As soon as the agency sends this information, NHAI makes that fastag blacklist or hotlist. After this, he stops working fast and has to face difficulty in giving toll to the vehicle owner.

The purpose of these new rules is to facilitate the experience of driving on the road and increase the transparency of the Fastag system. This will reduce traffic jams, will save passengers time and stop the theft. This change is a smart initiative to make the journey fast and relieve toll system. Now when you cross the toll next time, then check the correct position of your fastag or else the penalty of ‘blacklist’ can give you problems.
