New Delhi Railway Station is soon going to be seen in a new and modern form, where passengers will get an experience like an international airport instead of a traditional railway station. Under the big redevelopment plan of Indian Railways, it is being developed as a multi-modal global hub, which will make the journey more easy, comfortable and organized.
Big change amid increasing crowd, there will be huge increase in capacity
According to railway officials, in view of the ever increasing population and pressure of passengers, work is being done on the expansion of the station at a fast pace. At present, about 4.5 lakh passengers use this station every day, which is being planned to be increased to 7 lakh. The total area of the station will also be increased from the current 17,274 square meters to approximately 1,09,040 square meters, which will also include the basement area. After this change, passengers will get a lot of relief from congestion.
Revolutionary improvements in parking and connectivity
Parking system has been given special priority in the new design. The parking capacity at the station will be increased by about 7 times to create space for about 2,100 cars. Apart from this, for the convenience of the passengers, a modern road network will be built at a height of 10 meters, so that the vehicles will be able to reach the drop off point directly and the problem of traffic jam will be reduced.
Twin towers and huge concourse will change the whole scene
About 100 meters high, about 20 storey twin towers will be built in the station premises, which will become the identity of this entire project. Along with this, a huge concourse spread over about 60,000 square meters will also be built, which will be at a height of about 10 meters from the ground. The design of this concourse will be kept open and airy, so that the passengers feel a comfortable environment even amidst the crowd and the movement remains smooth.
