The process of impeachment against Allahabad High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Verma’s house in March will now start the process of impeachment against him in the Lok Sabha. According to sources, the BJP had prepared an impeachment motion before the start of the monsoon session of Parliament. The party also sought support from the opposition parties and some MPs also signed the proposal.
Trying to get the image of ‘Crusade against corruption’
On Wednesday, the government held a meeting on the issue and decided that the opposition has to take away the image of ‘anti-corruption’ itself, so that a clear message can be given in electoral states like Bihar, Bengal and Tamil Nadu that the BJP is strict against corruption in the judiciary.
Dhankhar decision became controversy
The government’s strategy was in danger with the decision of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. The BJP wanted the ruling party to lead the process of impeachment itself. The government says that if Dhankar had already told, BJP MPs would have signed the proposal and would have been under the party control.
New Vice President by end of August
After the resignation of Dhankhar, now the Election Commission has started the process of election of the new Vice President. According to sources, India will get a new Vice President by the last week of August.
