During the visit of English Prime Minister Keir Starmer to India, a big missile deal worth 350 million pounds (about Rs 4200 crore) was signed between the two countries. Under the agreement, the Indian Army will receive Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM) made in England. Also, under the defense agreement between India and England, Indian Air Force pilots will be deployed as instructors in the Royal Air Force of UK.
In the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an agreement was signed between the two countries to increase defense cooperation and develop common weapons. Indian Army will use these missiles in air defense. According to the Defense Ministry of England, European company Thales will produce these missiles (and their launchers) by setting up a plant in Belfast, Northern Ireland. About 700 people will get employment in this plant.

LMMs are used on tanks and armored vehicles to counter enemy drones, missiles and other aerial threats. The range of this missile is about six kilometers and its aiming is considered very accurate.

After the agreement, PM Modi mentioned the strengthening of defense cooperation between the two countries and said that the defense industries of India and England are connecting with each other. During this, PM Modi said that Indians will be deployed as flying instructors and trainers in the Royal Air Force of England.

Starmer’s visit to India comes at a time when the Royal (British) Navy’s aircraft carrier HMS Prince Wales is conducting joint exercise ‘Konkan’ with the Indian Navy from October 5 to October 12 in the Arabian Sea. The aircraft carrier warship INS Vikrant is leading this exercise on behalf of the Indian Navy. The special thing is that this time along with the Royal Navy, warships of Japan and Norway are also taking part in the Konkan Exercise.
Konkan exercise is being conducted in two phases this year
According to the Indian Navy, this year the Konkan exercise is being conducted in two phases. The first phase is in the harbor and the second in the sea. In the maritime phase of the exercise, flying operations including Carrier Strike Group (CSG), anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine drills of both the countries are being conducted. Aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, submarines and fighter jets of the navies of both the countries are taking part in this drill.
After Exercise Konkan, on 14 October, HMS Wales will conduct a one-day exercise with the Indian Air Force off the west coast. England’s Prime Minister Starmer is in India on a two-day visit (8-9 October). During this period, bilateral relations and strategic partnership between India and England have strengthened.
