West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave a big statement in the big protest march taken out against the ED raid on 9 January 2026. He said that Trinamool Congress (TMC) will win the Bengal Assembly elections in 2026 and the BJP government at the Center will not last till 2029.
BJP will fail to capture stolen power in Bengal
Mamta Banerjee launched a scathing attack on BJP during the march. He said, ‘BJP people call them Bangladeshi when they speak Bengali. If there are Rohingyas in Bengal then why not in Assam? Like Maharashtra and Haryana, BJP is trying to grab power by stealth in Bengal too, but it will not work here.
What big statements did Mamata Banerjee make in the protest march?
- On 2026 elections: We will win the Bengal Assembly elections in 2026. Bengal understands BJP’s game.
- On Central Government: BJP will not remain at the center till 2029. This is a tyrannical and corrupt party, it does not trust Gandhi.
- Rohingya and Bangladeshi allegations: BJP calls Bengali speaking people Bangladeshi. Where are the Rohingyas? Why was SIR not done in Assam?
- Peace and riot: We live peacefully, but BJP wants riots. This won’t work here.
- Election Commission and SIR: BJP and Election Commission together are eliminating people’s names in the name of SIR. Attacking Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, he said, ‘Who gave you the right to delete names? They want BJP to win.
- On ED Raid: Whatever I did yesterday, I did the right thing. ED wanted to take away confidential documents and hard disks of the party.
- Amit Shah and Subhendu Adhikari: Subhendu Adhikari used the money from coal scam and sent it to Amit Shah. The people sitting in the Election Commission were from Amit Shah’s cooperation department. Won by theft in Haryana and Bihar, now they are trying in Bengal also.
Thousands of supporters joined TMC’s march
TMC’s protest march started from 8B bus stand of Jadavpur in Kolkata and was attended by thousands of supporters, who were raising slogans against BJP. This march was against the ED raid on January 8, where I-PAC’s office and Prateek Jain’s house were raided.
Demonstration of TMC MPs in Delhi
On January 9, 2026, Trinamool Congress MPs are protesting strongly outside the office of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Prominent MPs like Derek O’Brien, Shatabdi Roy, Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad are included in the protest. TMC MPs are raising slogans against ED’s raid on I-PAC offices and the residence of its co-founder Prateek Jain in Kolkata. Police reached the spot, removed the protesters and detained Mahua Moitra and Derek O’Brien.
