Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has taunted the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Goddess Kali at a rally in West Bengal. He said that he is now late to make such efforts to woo Bengali voters.
In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Durgapur, West Bengal on Friday (July 18, 2025). PM Modi started his address in Bengali language and called upon Goddess Kali and Goddess Durga.
Taking a dig at the Prime Minister’s speech, Mahua Moitra said, “PM Modi, it is too late to take the name of mother Kali to get Bengali votes. Mother Kali does not eat Dhokla nor will she ever eat.”
Mahua Moitra’s Dhokla Attack
This comment made by Mahua Moitra about Dhokla is part of the first attacks on him, in which Mahua accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of controlling people’s food. In many black temples of West Bengal, the goddess is offered non -vegetarian food as an indulgence.
Mahua Moitra, MP from Krishnanagar in West Bengal, attacked the BJP over Dhokla earlier this year. He attacked the BJP after the video of some people threatened the shopkeepers in a fish market in Chittaranjan Park in New Delhi after it went viral. The fish market of Chittaranjan Park is located in the vicinity of a temple. Mahua Moitra, while sharing the same viral video, also claimed that the people who threatened shopkeepers were associated with the BJP.
What did TMC MP tweet?
Mahua Moitra wrote in a tweet made from his X account, “Now it has become well known how BJP’s goons are threatening Bengalis in Chittaranjan Park. Chittaranjan Park is a Bengali colony and the Bengali people are proudly fishing people.”
He further said, “Will BJP now tell us what we have to eat and where to set up their shops? Will BJP also tell us how to eat Dhokla and how to chant Jai Shri Ram thrice a day?” However, the Bharatiya Janata Party called this video as fake and political purpose inspired.
