LPG Crisis: LPG stock coming to India is still stuck in the Strait of Hormuz!

Even though Nanda Devi and Shivalik ships have crossed the Strait of Hormuz and reached India loaded with LPG, at least 6 big ships loaded with LPG are still stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, which have not been able to find a way out yet. Apart from this, there are 16 other such ships which have to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, but till now their path is also not clear.

Nanda Devi and Shivalik, which came to India with LPG, were loaded with approximately 92,700 tonnes of gas, with which India could meet its expenses for a day or a few hours more. Now that day has also passed, India still needs more LPG. And India’s LPG requirement for at least three days is still stuck in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, a total of 6 LPG laden ships are stranded in Hormuz, which have a stock of approximately 3 lakh tonnes of LPG. If this gas reaches India, India will have stock for three-four more days.

Apart from these 6 LPG laden ships, at least 16 more ships are stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. Of these, four ships are loaded with crude oil, while three have containers. There is an LNG tanker on a ship. Another ship is stuck in the Strait of Hormuz with chemical products. Apart from this, there are bulk carriers on two ships. Efforts are being made continuously from the Indian side to take these ships out of Hormuz.

The concerned officials of India and Iran are continuously talking to each other, but till now no such agreement has been reached between the two countries, so that the Indian ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz can be taken out. The result is that not only oil, but the stock of LPG used in kitchens is continuously decreasing. Nanda Devi and Shivalik have reached India with 92,700 metric tonnes of LPG, that too was only one day’s stock, which would have been filled in the cylinders by now and would have been exhausted.
