Life imprisonment sentence, 6 weeks of parole and then absconding … Haryana’s most wanted brought from Cambodia to India after 6 years

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has succeeded in bringing the notorious criminal Manpal Dhilla alias Manpal Badli back to India from Cambodia with the help of Haryana Police, Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs. Manpal was taken from India’s team Cambodia on Tuesday (September 2, 2025). Manpal is also known as Manpal Badli and Sonu Kumar. These criminals were wanted in many cases of Haryana Police. In 2013, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in cases like murder, attempt to murder, possessing illegal weapons and criminal conspiracy. Apart from this, he was convicted in two more cases.

Arrived out of prison on parole, then absconding

While serving a sentence in jail, he was given a 6 -week parole from Hisar Central Jail on July 17, 2018. He had to return by August 29, 2018, but he did not return to jail and escaped. On the demand of Haryana Police, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) issued a red notice against it on 6 November 2024 through Interpol. Investigation revealed that he reached Cambodia from Thailand and there he started living in a fake passport and started living under the name Sonu Kumar. After this, the CBI demanded his arrest from Cambodia through Interpol channels.

Cambodia agencies reported arrest

On July 24, 2025, the agencies of Cambodia reported India about the arrest of notorious criminal Manpal Dhilla alias Manpal Badli and later decided to hand over it to India. After this, a team of Haryana Police reached Cambodia and brought it to India. The CBI said that the red notice of Interpol is shared with agencies around the world so that the wanted criminals can be caught. In the last few years, more than 100 criminals have been brought to India with the help of Interpol channels.
