The Bar Council of India (BCI) has suspended lawyer Rakesh Kishore in the Supreme Court on Monday (October 6, 2025) with immediate effect. The BCI has taken this action, based on the assault of the lawyer towards the Chief Justice (CJI) BR Gawai during the Supreme Court proceedings.
President of Bar Council of India shows strict orders
The order issued under the signature of Bar Council of India President Manan Kumar Mishra has made it clear that Rakesh Kishore will not be able to appear in any court or tribunal in India during the suspension period. It has also been directed to immediately deactivate all ID cards or access pass issued in his name.

The BCI cited the incident of Chief Justice of India on Monday (October 6, 2025). The order states that according to prima facie evidence, at around 11:35 am on October 6, 2025, advocate Rakesh Kishore tried to take off his shoe in the Supreme Court court number 1 and throw it to the Chief Justice of India (CJI). The security personnel present there immediately took him into custody.
Show cause notice issued to lawyer- BCI
The interim order states that this step is being taken under the Advocates Act, 1961 and Bar Council of India Rules. These rules are related to the conduct, dignity of lawyers and respect for the court. The Bar Council of India (BCI) has said that this order is interim. A show cause notice has also been issued to the lawyer. Further disciplinary action will be taken as per law.
