A terrible avalanche occurred on Friday (March 27, 2026) near zero point in Zojila Pass of Ladakh. Officials said that in this avalanche incident, many vehicles along with passengers got buried under the pile of snow and debris, in which 7 people also lost their lives.
While talking to news agency IANS, a senior Jammu and Kashmir Police official confirmed that at least 7 people have died and five others have been injured in a terrible avalanche in Zojila Pass on Friday (March 27, 2026) afternoon. He said that the rescue operation is going on rapidly after the avalanche. It is also being said that a child and a woman along with a local resident of Ladakh are among those who lost their lives due to the avalanche.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh shared a post on social media platform X at 8:13 pm on Friday (March 27, 2026). In the post, he expressed his condolences and expressed grief towards the 7 people who died in Zojila pass. He said that he is saddened to hear the news of the death of 7 people and injuries to 5 people in the avalanche near Zojila pass. My condolences are with the families of the dead and injured. Necessary treatment is being provided to all the injured.
Leh-Srinagar Highway completely closed due to avalanche

Officials said that the Leh-Srinagar highway has been completely closed due to the avalanche. Three to four vehicles are buried under the snow. Due to this, traffic on the road has been disrupted. This 434 kilometer long highway is also very important strategically. After this, the officials of the concerned department are engaged in relief and rescue work and removing snow from the road with the help of heavy machines, so that the movement of other vehicles stuck on the road is not disrupted and traffic can be restored.
