Iran War: US Defense Minister’s new threat, Iran devastated by US attack, this time there will be a decisive decision

America has once again threatened Iran amid the Middle East war. First President Donald Trump and now Defense Minister Pete Hegseth have warned Iran’s top leadership on Tuesday (31 March 2026). The US Defense Minister claimed that he is ready for ‘boots on the ground’ and the conflict will end only on his terms. He also said that if dialogue does not work out then ‘talks through bombs’ will be carried out.

America engaged in military preparations against Iran

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that talks regarding Iran are going on and are gaining momentum, but at the same time military options are also open. He said, ‘If needed, America can also launch a ground invasion. However, it may not be needed. He said that America’s strategy is to be a little ‘unpredictable’, so that the enemy cannot guess what the next step will be. He said, ‘You can neither fight nor win a war unless you tell your adversary what you are prepared to do and what you are not prepared to do, including the deployment of ground troops.’

Hegseth further said, ‘Our adversary is currently thinking that there are 15 different ways in which we can attack them with ground troops. He said that if needed, America can implement those options or perhaps we may not need to use them. Maybe things can be resolved through conversation. The main thing is to be unpredictable in this matter, certainly not to let anyone know what you are willing to do and what you are not.

Talks at diplomatic level also an option: America

General Dan Kane, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that the military options that the US military can implement are quite broad. He said, ‘I would not like to limit the scope of the president’s decision-making, but there are many things, the most important of which is that Iran should take into account that our troops are present there and they act as a pressure point. I believe that keeping in mind the current situation, they should consider this matter carefully at the diplomatic level.

While answering the question regarding Trump’s aggressive attitude towards NATO, Hegseth said, ‘The mission will end only on our terms. In the words of the President, there is no doubt about it. As far as NATO is concerned, this decision will be left to the President, but I will just say that a lot has become clear. He said sarcastically, ‘The world has seen that when we make an effort on such a large scale on behalf of the free world, what are our allies ready to do for America?’

Hegseth takes aim at NATO

He said, ‘America is not in the range of their missiles. They reach out to our colleagues and others. Yet, when we ask for additional help or just basic air travel permission, we face questions, obstacles or hesitations. Finally, explaining the meaning of Trump’s truth post, Hegseth said that the President is indicating that if you have countries that are not ready to stand with you when needed, then your alliance does not have much meaning.
