After the ceasefire between America and Iran, the situation on the Strait of Hormuz is expected to gradually become normal. On one hand, US President Donald Trump has announced a two-week ceasefire, while Iran has also agreed to open the Hormuz Strait during this period. This has brought relief news for India, because due to tension in West Asia, fuel supply in the country was being affected.
Trump said that this decision was taken after talks with Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. He said that he was appealed to stop a major attack on Iran. Also, in view of Iran’s talk of safely opening Hormuz, they decided to stop the bombings and attacks for two weeks.

Iran has also agreed to this ceasefire. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said their conditions had been accepted and ships would be allowed safe passage through Hormuz for the next two weeks. This work will be done in coordination with the Iranian Army. When the war started, Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz. This had a direct impact on India, because about 40 percent of India’s crude oil, more than 50 percent of LNG and about 90 percent of LPG comes through this route. However, later Iran gave permission to some countries including India to pass through this route, calling them friends. Apart from India, China, Russia, Iraq and Pakistan were also included in this.
2 LPG tankers coming towards India
At present, the news is that two Indian flagged LPG tankers are safely crossing Hormuz and coming towards India, while 16 other ships are still stranded in the Persian Gulf. These include LNG ships, LPG tankers, ships carrying crude oil, container ships and other cargo ships. According to a government official, the ‘Green Saanvi’ tanker carrying 46,650 tonnes of LPG will reach India on April 7, while the ‘Green Asha’ tanker with 15,500 tonnes of gas will reach the Indian coast on April 9.
How much oil does India import?
India imports about 60 percent of its LPG requirement and about 90 percent of this is supplied from West Asia. In such a situation, with the arrival of these tankers and the opening of Hormuz, the gas supply in the country is expected to improve. Now that this waterway is going to open for two weeks, the number of ships coming to India may increase and the pressure of fuel shortage may reduce.
