US President Donald Trump has made it clear before the peace talks with Iran to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan that his biggest goal is to ensure that Iran does not have nuclear weapons. He said that the most important condition of any agreement would be that Iran should completely abstain from making nuclear weapons. In Trump’s words, “No nuclear weapons, that’s 99 percent of the issue.”
Trump once again showed a tough stance regarding the Strait of Hormuz. He said this important sea route would remain open whether Iran cooperates or not. This route is very important for the world, because about one-fifth of the crude oil passes through here. Trump said that if necessary, America will open it on its own.
Vice President JD Vance reached Islamabad
Meanwhile, America, on its part, has sent Vice President JD Vance to Islamabad, who will lead talks with Iranian officials. Along with him, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner are also part of this team. This team has reached Pakistan after staying in Paris. On the other hand, from Iran’s side, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have reached Islamabad to participate in the talks. Vance said during the visit that he expected positive results from the talks, but that if Iran tried to manipulate, the US team would take a tough stance.
Difficult to trust America – Iran
Iran has also made it clear that it is ready for talks, but it does not trust America. Ghalibaf said that Iran’s intentions are good, but due to past experiences it is difficult to trust America, because promises have been broken during talks in the past also. Iran has also put forward some conditions. He says that talks will move forward only when a ceasefire is implemented in Lebanon and Iran’s assets stored abroad are released. At the same time, America and Israel say that Lebanon is not a part of this ceasefire, due to which this issue has become more complicated.
