INS Tamal: INS Tamal will be the time of enemies in the sea! Will blow like Indra’s sword, know what is special?

On Tuesday (July 01, 2025), the Indian Navy got its last foreign warship ‘INS Tamal’ in Russia, while the second stealth frigate (warfare) of Project 17A in Mumbai was handed over to Udayagiri by Majhgaon Dokyard. The commissioning of Stealth Frigate ‘INS Tamal’ built in Russia has concluded in Calinignagrad. During this period, Commanding in Chief Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh of the Indian Navy was also present at the Russian Shipyard.

Tamal will be part of the Navy’s Western Fleet (Sword Arm) & Nbsp; after coming to India from Callingrad. The new stealth frigate of the Indian Navy is named from mythology. The sword used by Lord Indra in war was named ‘Tamal’.

Part of the eighth series of Frigates

According to the Navy, it is part of the eighth series of the Cruel class frigates, which has been included in the last two decades from Russia. Tamal is the second ship of Turshi category, which is a better version of its predecessors, swords and teg categories. According to the Navy, Tamal’s speed is 30 nautical miles. Anti ship BrahMos missile can be fired from this.

It has also been specially designed for anti submarine warfare. Anti-Sabarine rockets and torpedo are also present in this warship to deal with enemy attacks. A helicopter can also be deployed on Tamal. For air defense, Tamal is equipped with Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (Mrsam).

BrahMos long -range cruise missile

According to the Indian Navy, Tamal has been prepared at the Yantra Shipyard of Russia’s Calininagrad, but has 26 percent indigenous material. It includes BrahMos long -range cruise missiles. ‘INS Tamal’ is the last foreign warship of the Indian Navy. In the last decade, India has bought INS Vikramaditya in addition to Tamal from Russia. & Nbsp;

At present, more than 60 Navy warships and submarines are being built in different shipyards of the country. No warship of the Indian Navy will be built out of the country in ahead of time.

7 shipguards made under the project

Meanwhile, taking a big step towards self-reliance in the defense sector, indigenous Shipyard Majgaon Docyard Limited (MDL) has handed over the Navy to the Navy’s second stalth Friget (Stars) INS Udayagiri. Under this project, a total of 7 such frigates, MDLs and GRSE Shipyards in Kolkata are being built.

These are all multi-mission frigates, which can operate in blue water and are capable of dealing with conventional and non-conventional threats. It is believed that by 2026 all the ships of Project 17A will be delivered to the Navy.

Supersonic missile & nbsp;

According to the Navy, all the warships of P-17A have strong stealth features and are equipped with State of the Ort Weapons and Sensors.
